IN PASSING

by Lisel Mueller

How swiftly the strained honey of afternoon light flows into darkness

and the closed bud shrugs off its special mystery in order to break into blossom:

as if what exists, exists so that it can be lost and become precious

I am fortunate to have had the skills to document my family’s milestones. When my husband got sick, our image archives helped us to re-live the important threads that united us. When I miss him, it is the photographs that help me feel him. This is why I have returned to being a family photographer and why I want to photograph real moments and family milestones for others.

Life moves fast. A photoshoot not only pauses time but partaking in it creates a ritual of sorts, a visible mark of something important.
